In December 0f 2022 Southside senior Wiley Boudreaux dropped to 132 lbs.,
hoping to test himself against Brother Martin's Richie Clementi. Suffice
to say, it did not work as he would have liked. He told the editor that it
was OK, he had a state championship (D3 in 2021 for Erath) and had "nothing left
to prove" re wrestling. The editor did not buy that for a second.
Two matches and less than three minutes later Boudreaux placed third. A
week later he won the Public School Wrestling Championships. In a dual
meet, the Louisiana Classic finals and the Ken Cole finals he fell to Teurlings
Catholic's Ethan Boudreaux, who had an incredible undefeated season. Prior
to the state championships he won the Lafayette Metro tournament. For
someone with "nothing left to prove," he certainly did not give up.
St. Paul junior Conlan Enk knew very well what facing Clementi was like as
those two met in the 2022 Division I finals. Enk's only losses this season
came from Boudreaux (twice, including the state finals) and to 2022 Division I
runner-up Grant Hebert of Jesuit, whom Enk defeated twice later in the season.
Enk placed second at the Border Wars, won the Gulf Coast Scuffle and the St.
Tammany Parish Championships, and placed third at the Louisiana Classic.

Finals
(1) Wiley Boudreaux of Southside pinned (2)
Conlan Enk of St. Paul in 5:55
This was a back and forth match. Boudreaux scored a takedown in
the first period, but Enk replied with an escape and a takedown in the
second two minutes, giving him the lead entering the final round.
Boudreaux escaped very quickly, but only took the lead with a takedown
with 11 seconds remaining. It was a good takedown, though, as it
lead to a fall six seconds later. |
